This post picks up from where the last left off.
3. Western nations are no longer leading the world in promoting and safe guarding Universal Human Rights, drafted in the aftermath of WW2. Many nations are pitting national security concerns against Human Rights. As this includes article 14 – the right to seek asylum abroad – this trend has direct impact on the safety of forcibly displaced people.
4. The 3 long-term solutions to forced displacement are failing. Even in the best of times (which does not include today), less than 3% of the global refugee population found a solution to their displacement in any given year.
*Note: The 3 solutions are A) return home, B) integrate into the present country of refuge and C) resettle to another country. I will clarify why these are not working in a future post.
